ALOHA • YOUR NEXT BIG ISLAND ADVENTURE STARTS HERE
Volcano adventures

An island of extraordinary landscapes.

A volcano day is a major outing from Waikoloa. Prepare well, keep your plans flexible, and let the island surprise you.

Make it a full-day plan

Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park is far from the resort coast, so start early and allow generous time for driving, breaks, and park stops. Road conditions and weather may vary widely across the island; do not rely on a single weather forecast.

Check conditions before heading out

Review the National Park Service's official alerts and road information before the journey. Volcanic activity is not guaranteed, and access to areas can change. Stay on open, designated roads and paths, and never enter closed areas or lava tubes without permission.

A comfortable ride for the day

A Hyundai Elantra can be suitable for regular paved-road sightseeing, but your rental listing's location, approved roads, mileage, fuel requirements, and trip rules must always be checked first. These vehicles are not for off-road or unauthorized access.
